Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 Review

It is not that long ago that when you went on vacation or an activity trip you would be not happy with the idea of bringing your expensive digital camera with you, in case it got damaged or broken. However with the advancements in digital camera technology in recent years means that not only are digital cameras more affordable than ever before, you can also get tough and hardy cameras that can be brought almost anywhere. There are many compact cameras on the market that are in this category, but for me the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 has got to be one of the best. I have used it when I created my CaptureMe photobook and the quality was great and although I dropped on my holidays into the swimming pool the camera still worked fine.

So let’s have a look at the camera’s main features:

  • Compact Body – 4.1 x 2.5 x 1.0 inches
  • Weight 6.95 oz. (196g)
  • 12.1 Megapixels
  • 4.6x Optical Zoom
  • 2.7 Inch LCD
  • Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery & Charger
  • Dustproof
  • Waterproof to depth of 40 feet (12m)
  • Freezeproof down to temperature of 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10°C)
  • Shockproof from a height of 6.6 feet (2m)

Panasonic has recommended a retail price of $399.99 for this camera but it appears to retail for anywhere between $265.00 and $299.00 so do shop around to find yourself the best possible deal.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 is as hardy a camera as you are likely to come across and there is definitely no need for a camera case or protector. This camera is built for people who want to visit the beach and not have to worry about sand getting into their camera and also to be able to take it into the sea with them and take some underwater shots or those who take activity trips such as mountain biking or canoeing where getting dusty and dirty are unavoidable.

This camera takes decent quality photographs, however like with all compact digital cameras, the Lumix DMC-TS4 works a lot better in good light and begins to struggle the darker it gets. This however is not a major problem; it is just a fact with compact cameras in this price range. So in order to take the best picture you can with this camera, use natural light, lamps and lights and the built in flash where possible.

For those of us that like to holiday in the snow or enjoy skiing, or if you live in an area that experiences snowy winters, then this is the camera for you. It can easily withstand cold temperatures up to minus 10 degrees Celsius and because it is waterproof it will not be damaged being in snowy damp conditions.

The best thing that this camera offers is the ability to take photographs in places and conditions where we previously would not have bothered bringing a camera. As there is no need for a camera case you can have quick and easy access to the camera as photo opportunities arise. You are not going to be able to take as good a photograph as you could with a high end camera but you will certainly achieve nice pictures. This is the perfect product for anyone who enjoys activities and the outdoors and would like to take pictures while doing so.
